Training Programs

SSPH+ network partners are heavily engaged in public health science training and education on the bachelor, master, doctoral and postgraduate or continued education level. Courses and programs led by the SSPH+ constituencies are listed here:

The two seasonal schools listed below are run under the co-lead of SSPH+

Lugano Summer School

At the SSPH+ Lugano Summer School public health professionals, researchers and graduate students learn together through mutual exchange in a stimulating and beautiful environment. The SSPH+ Lugano Summer School places health, disease, and health systems thinking under one common framework of coherent concepts and practical implications. The focus on public health policy, economics, management, and communication combined with the diversity of students (~120 from >30 countries each year) and facilitators has provided for a rich learning environment for over two decades so far. The education obtained and networks created serve as an opportunity to reduce and prevent the gap between public health theory and practice. The academic lead of the SSPH+ Lugano Summer School is carried by Universita della Svizzera Italiana (USI), University of Applied Sciences of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH).

European Educational Programme in Epidemiology (EEPE)

The course, now in its thirty-fourth year, is intended for epidemiologists, public health practitioners, statisticians and clinicians with an interest in epidemiology. The course offers in the first two weeks five general modules on epidemiological study design and statistical analysis of epidemiological data. In the third week several special modules cover topics of current relevance for health and advanced methodological issues. The courses are taught in English by lecturers mostly from European universities and research institutes and are held in residential form in the “Studium” centre on the hills close to Florence. Participants have appreciated the opportunity of combining an intensive learning experience with the unique attraction for cultural and artistic enjoyment offered by Florence and Tuscany. We are proud to report a comment written by a participant in the evaluation form at the end of the course “Nowhere else such a high-quality presentation of the key topics in modern epidemiology in such a short time”. EEPE is co-lead by the University of Torino, IS Global in Barcelona, Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) and SSPH+.
